Academic excellence should be the foundation of education. Currently our nation is in an educational crisis where reading & math levels have plummeted and Francis Howell School District's lower test scores reflect this. We need to get back to the basics with curriculum focused on reading, writing, math, and science. I support smaller classroom sizes, no teaching time lost for social activism, less screen-time in class, and FHSD becoming top 10 in academics again.
Parents have a right to make key decisions about their child's education, healthcare, and upbringing. When I am on the Francis Howell School Board I will advocate for increased transparency between parents and the district. I commit to requiring parental consent about issues that matter most and I commit to always putting parental rights first.
During Covid our local NEA (National Education Association) fought to keep our schools closed and children masked. Now we know that these policies greatly harmed our children. Recently the NEA has pushed for gender indoctrination, the removal of advanced classes, and lowering educational standards. I stand against current and future radical social agendas becoming policy at FHSD.
On the school board I'll advocate to spend our $280M annual budget wisely and provide transparency for citizens in the district. Over expenditures like the $79M runaway capital spending on Francis Howell North must stop. I don't believe we should have any new taxes or bonds before restoring fiscal control and taxpayer confidence. Let's rein in our budget with close oversight and by spending less on bureaucrats. Then we can put our money where it's most needed like pay for the best teachers.
Unfortunately we live in a world where physical safety must be a priority for our schools. We must keep our schools safe from intruders and safe for learning. I support finishing security entrances, officers in all schools, no bullying allowed, and clear discipline policies to set proper expectations so all students have an opportunity to learn in classrooms.
Francis Howell School District proposed policy 2116 is a straight forward common sense bathroom policy which requires girls to use girls restrooms/locker rooms and boys to use boys restrooms/locker rooms. This policy requires schools to provide single use bathrooms for anyone not comfortable using the restroom as defined by their birth certificate. This is a common sense policy that I support for the safety and wellbeing of ALL 16,800+ students in the Francis Howell School District.
I believe adult sexual content should be kept out of classrooms. There is no reason for any adults in the school environment to be discussing sexual preference and identity with our young children. If parents choose to discuss sexuality with their children then these are things that should be discussed within the home environment. We need to take back our classroom time for educational learning and remove sexual indoctrination from our schools.
Do you remember in 2021 when the Francis Howell School District removed advanced classes for the sake of equity? Luckily the school board stopped additional removal of advanced courses but there is still a push by national interests to remove all types of advanced classes in our schools. I vow to fight for the best educational opportunities for ALL students in our district (advanced students, students with disabilities, and every child in between).
I respect and value our teachers. Their knowledge, experience, and ideas are necessary for student success. Often teacher's voices are dominated by others and their valuable insight goes unheard. I believe increased teacher input, open discussions, and roundtable interactions will benefit both teachers and students at Francis Howell. On Francis Howell School Board I'll strive to bridge the gap between teacher's voices and board policies in the future.
